Serious consequences for serious and repeat offenders

Violent offenders, sexual predators, and people who repeatedly commit serious crimes demand our sustained attention. I support strong, lawful sentences that reflect the harm done and protect the public. A defendant’s record, the danger they present, and the facts of the case must matter.

Victims who are heard and treated with care

Victims deserve more than a case number. They deserve to be heard, kept informed, and treated with patience and respect. We should explain the process, listen to their concerns, and be candid about difficult decisions. That commitment applies to every victim, regardless of money, connections, or political views.

The courage to clear the innocent

An accusation is not proof. We must examine the evidence fairly, meet our obligations to disclose it, and remain willing to change course when the facts require it. When the evidence shows that a person is innocent, we should work to clear that person. When a charge cannot be supported, we should not pursue it merely to protect a statistic or avoid criticism.

Strong partnerships with law enforcement

Officers and deputies do difficult, dangerous work on behalf of all of us. They deserve prosecutors who answer their calls, help build sound cases, and arrive prepared for court. I value practical training, candid communication, and cooperation across agencies. Strong partnerships also require honest feedback and accountability when something goes wrong.

Finding and developing exceptional people

A strong office depends on the quality and character of its people. I want to recruit talented prosecutors, investigators, and staff, give them useful training and experienced mentors, and build a workplace where good people choose to stay. Preparation, judgment, and integrity should be expected at every level. Taxpayers also deserve efficient work that makes the most of our time and resources.

Public safety that lasts

Protecting the public requires sound judgment about the person and the offense. For appropriate offenders, closely supervised treatment and meaningful accountability can help prevent another crime. My experience with Veterans Treatment Court has reinforced the value of demanding programs that require people to take responsibility. Public safety must remain the measure of any approach.
